Solteck’s ABP project wins UK Green Apple Award for Water Sustainability, in “flagship” plant

Project Wins Green Apple Award and Sustainability Leaders Award

ABP is one of the largest beef processors in Europe. The company is a long established client and approached Solteck to provide a waste water treatment solution in its beef rendering facility in Sturminster Newton. The plant is ABPs flagship plan for innovation in the latest food processing technologies.

Solteck accepted the challenge and working in close collaboration with the client, we successfully implements a high performing treatment solution which provided the required treatment capacity. The system fully meets all compliance requirements and is scalable to address the future capacity needs, as the plant continues its expansion over the next 5 years. Solteck’s technology in the area of reverse osmosis, was described as a highly innovative system for the re-use and recycling of water.

The solution attained high results when evaluated under the agreed Key Performance measures and the solution is now proposed for incorporation to the upgrade strategy for similar sites globally.

ABP UK was presented with a silver Green Apple Award at the Houses of Parliament on November 12th 2012. The awards is for best environmental practice, for its Sturminster Newton abattoir upgrade. ABP featured in the Food & Drink category.  In addition, the project was also awarded the Sustainability Leaders Award.

The upgrade to the plant included a scheme to reduce water usage in the factory. ABP managing director, Tom Kirwan was said to be delighted with the award and said: “This is a great achievement for ABP UK and the Sturminster Newton site in particular. It is always nice to receive independent recognition for the hard work carried out by our team, especially when this work is focused on a key sustainability issue for the meat industry.”
